Luxurious Gift Ideas: Gold Flatware

Nothing screams luxury than eating off of GOLD cutlery.  This gift is ideal for a wedding gift, because it is so unexpected and expensive.  In the past, families often had one set of flatware for everyday use and another set for special occasions.   Today gold flatware can be a luxury that can be enjoyed everyday for small snacks and a morning coffee.   Include a note with the gift that encourages a person to enjoy a little bit of regal elegance everyday than squirreling it away for special occasions ....  "You deserve the best! ...Your morning coffee spoons that will stir up a fantastic day"   This gift is perfect gift along side a gourmet coffee gift.  Coffee Masters Variety Pack Ground Coffee features 12 coffee packs in gold with 12 different flavors.  Gold plated flatware is a very unique for that mother in law with expensive taste or that boss who is thinking about giving you a raise in the next year.   The beauty of gold flatware is it an item of  luxury that you don't need to feel guilty eating off.  Gilded or gold-plated flatware is especially famous for its beautiful color.  Sets can be purchased entirely  gilded or decoratively gilded just on the handles for cosmetic enhancement. A thin layer of chemically hardened gold is applied to stainless steel to produce a golden color over the flatware.   If you do suggest using the sets everyday, consider getting the gilding on the handle only, as the gold does eventually wear away with heavy daily use.  Gilded flatware can be found for a bargain on ebay, so don't be surprised if it is an affordable gift to give!

Include a card with instructions and maintenance hints:

All pieces should be washed immediately after each use.  This will prevent pitting and spotting that are sometimes caused by high acid content foods, such as eggs, salt, vinegar, mustard, as well as high chloride detergents.  Hand washing in hot soapy water (Ivory or Dawn) is the preferable method of cleaning.  Do not use steel wool, coarse powders or similar abrasives.  Pieces should be dried immediately after each wash.

Most importantly:

DO NOT put in Dishwasher! DO NOT wash with a "lemon" dish soap.  The lemon ingredient wears the flatware

For deep cleaning I would suggest Revere copper cleaner , or Mothers Metal polish, as it  polishes to a brilliant shine.  It is made for very heavy tarnish you get on copper-bottom pots and works really fast.
