The 2012 Bachelor season has been the most talked about season ever in the history of Bachelor.  I have to admit, I have never watched the Bachelor before, but my husband and I thought we would tune in this year and did it ever keep us on edge from week to week, partly due to spicy model Courtney Robertson.

The 2012 Bachelor season has been the most talked about season ever in the history of Bachelor.  I have to admit, I have never watched the Bachelor before, but my husband and I thought we would tune in this year and did it ever keep us on edge from week to week, partly due to spicy model Courtney Robertson.

Courtney, driven and competitive; didn't want anyone to get a chance with the man she was falling in love with, even if it meant hurting peoples feelings, being disrespectful, and rather intimidating to the other ladies vying for Ben's love.  From week to week, the show's producers would give her the majority of the spotlight as she would say sarcastic remarks about the other ladies which at times made us laugh, while other times, my husband and I looked at one another with shock that she could be so mean.

We all know these shows are not produced with the best interests of the contestants, but rather are carefully crafted for the best entertainment possible.  I can only imagine that these women were cupped up in hotel rooms just waiting to get picked for a date, leaving them waiting from week to week.  I couldn't imagine the boredom! Can you?  

In fact, it seems as though many of these reality shows tend to pick out the most outspoken person on the show to base the entire show around, even if it is showing them in a bad light.  We see the same with this season of Survivor 2012: One World.  Colton Cumbie is being featured in the spotlight in several of the episodes because of his sarcastic hurtful comments, carefree attitude and satisfaction of doing harm to his teammates.  Not to mention he gives the impression he is a rich kid that comes from a high society, not willing to associate with lower class individuals as he mentions in one of the most memorable tribal councils of Survivor history.

Contestant Jerri Manthey was picked to be on the shows Heroes vs. Villains, a show that features the most loved and hated contestants.  She originally was on the cast of The Australian Outback Survivor and gained a bad reputation. The show captured some of the other contestants talking behind her back what seemed to be every episode, along with cherry picking her worst moments, and made her the highlight of the show that season of Survivor.  Is she that way in real life?  Or would anyone be annoying given only a couple tablespoons a rice a day?  In fact, she reveals on the reuinion  show how her life has been tarnished since being on Survivor, as a result of viewed as a villain.  The audience reacted negatively, and she walked out of the show half way though the taping, because she felt she was being rejected.  Many speculate the audience was reacting to personal attacks of the show, but rather Jerri Manthey was simply stating how her life has been affected in such a negative way because of the show.

Appearing on a reality show could possibly destroy your reputation for years, or on the other hand you can bec0me an overnight star.  The public eats up the entertainment, and the tv producers feature interesting people because shocking tv sells.  The public has to be reminded that reality shows try to create a story line that will entice people to come back for another week of viewing.

Back to the Bachelor......,

Before the Final Show, The women featured on the Bachelor got together for a show called "The Women Tell All" Courtney was painted as an absolutely horrible person, and the cameras panned that disapproval by showing women in the audience shaking their heads.  In many of the shows, her true personality shined when she was away from the other women.  My husband at one point even mentioned to me that it was so clear why Ben chose her, which I agreed with.  She really has an attractive personality, and perhaps she felt rejected by the other women from the start and overtime she let herself react badly in certain situations.  I have to admit her laugh is infectious, and wouldn't be surprised if she lands tv or movie roles.  Although she was seemingly hurt in the end how the public and the other women viewed her because of being on the show.

On Courtney's final date with Ben, she presented a gift to him, which turned out to be a photo album of pictures of the couple together on several of the dates through out the show.  Ben obviously surprised and somewhat shocked how Courtney was able to take the pictures of the couple on several of their adventures without him knowing.

Blakeley, another beauty on the show bared her true feelings of falling in love with Ben several shows earlier, and revealed that she kept a scrapbook of memories and reminders of him through the weeks leading up to her date.  In this clip at about 9:53, it shows her presenting the very thoughtful album to Ben, sadly on the night she went home.

The show had Ben's mother and sister fly into Switzerland, where the show was taping at the time to meet the final two ladies, and it was Courtney who also arrived with a gift for Ben's mother.  Giving gifts can show a sign of respect, thoughtfulness and a sign of endearment towards another person, which is why many people give a gift on many occasions even when they are not expected. Well thought out gifts can be a sign of appreciation and a gesture of wanting to connect with the other person.

Episode 4: Division

America becomes a nation at the moment a revolution in commerce and industry sweeps across the western world.  This vast new country, experiences a rapid change--in trade, transport and manufacturing.   The construction of the Erie Canal, New York booms, and the American industrial revolution takes off.  The issue is slavery takes precedence.  Abraham Lincoln sets the stage for war.

Episode 5: Civil War

The Civil War rages and the death toll soars like never before seen on American soil.  The rail network, the telegram, supply lines, medicine and the media all advance like never before.  America poised to explode into the 20th century as a global superpower.

Episode 6: Heartland

In 1869, the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of America, more than 2,000 miles apart, are linked by continuous metal rails which alters the entire ecology of the continent.  Lumber was driven down the rivers to build the new homes and cities of the Midwest, where grass houses were the norm.  The cowboy drives cattle thousands of miles to bring food to the East. Barbed wire was invented, and steel wire transforms the plains by parcel up the land.  The heartland is transformed--not by the gun, but by railroad, fence and plough.

Episode 7: Cities

Between 1880 and 1930, nearly 24 million new immigrants arrive in America.   Cities like New York and Chicago expand with the new immigrants, and a new kind of building, the sky scraper, is made possible by steel.  Powered by steel and electricity, the new York begins to be transformed into a city defined by mass transportation, stunning skylines, electric light...and the innovative, industrious American spirit.

Episode 8: BOOM

Oil production doubles overnight and prices plummet from $2 to 3 cents a barrel. Henry Ford brings the motor car to the masses, and in 1900, there are 8,000 cars in the country. By 1930, there are over 20 million. As the population becomes more mobile, the entire shape of America changes. .

Episode 9: BUST

In October 1929, the economic boom of the 1920s ends with a crash on Wall Street. Between 1929 and 1932, $2 billion in deposits evaporate. Years of intensive ploughing and severe drought dry out the land.

Episode 10: WWII

It is 1939, and while war breaks out in Europe, America remains mired in a 10-year Depression. The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor brings America into another world war.   The nation taps into vast manufacturing reserves that have been idle for 10 years: factories, electrical plants, railroads.  The might of America's strategy and supplies turns the tide of war.

Episode 11: Superpower

World War II transforms America into a global superpower. Fueled by technology, the economy booms, and a new age of consumerism is born. More than a million acres of land each year to build new suburbs.  The first man walks on the moon-and plants the American flag there.

Episode 12: Millennium

America booms in both population and prosperity. The "baby boomers" become the next generation to reinvent the country. Powerful new technologies sweep the nation. Television brings the world into Americans' living rooms, changing lives and values in unexpected ways.  A piece of plastic-the credit card-shapes the decade and spurs spending. The biggest technological advances change the globe such as the personal computer and the Internet. Just like the telegraph and railroad before them, these new breakthroughs transform America.  As the nation launches into the 21st century, what does the future hold?

1. Clues in the Batting

An antique quilt was often filled with materials such as silk, wool or cotton. If the quilt is filled with polyester batting, it is a way of knowing it was made in 1960's and there after.

2. Clues in the Stitching.

When it comes to stitching of the fabric you want to look for stitch length of the stitches. Compare for yourself a machine stitch compared to a hand stitch. Older quilts you will find that the fabric is raised as a result of the batting shifting, so look carefully. When you identify the stitch being handmade, look carefully if the workmanship of the stitch. Does it look like the quilt was made in a hurry? Real quitters take their time which shows in the quilt.

3. Look at the Appliqués and Piecework.

Does it appear that the appliques were hand stitched or machine made?

4. Examine the fabric.

Does it still have the sheen of new cotton? Most likely the quilt is a copy, as most antique fabrics looses their sheen over time.  Looking at the fabric is one of the biggest indications to age of the quilt.

5. Size.

Is the size a King size? A sure way of knowing it is NOT an antique.
